Story

About Dr. Power:

Oh baby! Dr. Laura Power is ready to pull out her old dance shoes and bring the Mirror Ball home.

Originally from Thunder Bay, she is no stranger to the stage. Dr. Power danced with Le Stelle Alpine Italian Dancers and Dance Dynamics Studio for many years. She was elated to join the new line-up of physicians for this event.

Attending Lakehead University, she obtained an undergraduate degree and Masters degree in Physics. She was then part of the second inaugural class of graduating doctors from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. After a year of Family Medicine, she transferred to the University of Manitoba to complete a residency in OBGYN. Once returning home, she has become a familiar face around the Labour and Delivery ward at the TBRHSC and is now a Chief of the department.

Dr. Power joined DWTD for the benefits it brings to all: camaraderie, fun, exercise, and raising money for a worthy cause in our community. We know this fierce competitor is pulling out all the tricks with this National number that will connect to many in the crowd. Andiamo!

About Nikolas:

Nik Pizzi is coming out of retirement and channeling his Italian heritage as he takes on the Tarantella! Originally not in the performance order, he could not say no to Tricia when she approached him about sharing his talents and joining us to capture the Mirror Ball Trophy! In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, spending time outside and traveling to locations that no one has ever heard of—most recently, the Faroe Islands.

Nik attended Lakehead University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He currently works for the government of Canada as a Case Manager. In his dancing prime, he was a jazz and tap specialist at International Dance Academy and wowed many a crowd with his “PIZZIazz”. He stole hearts in his younger years, and we know he’s going to do it again once he hits the stage!

While not being able to say no, Nik is really dancing in memory of his mother who lost her battle with cancer on July 1st of 2024. We know that Michelle is smiling down, hollering with excitement and laughing her butt off. Nik and Laura will be a couple to watch out for!
