Story
On Sunday 25th of October 2020 the unimaginable happened and we lost our beautiful, gentle, kind, funny and wonderful Dominic much too soon, during his sleep. Our lives will never be the same again and as a family who had the privilege of him in our lives for 23 years our hearts are broken.
Anybody who knows our family will be aware that Dominic had epilepsy and it affected his life in so many ways: -
The many drugs that he had to take every day and the subsequent side effects.
The not being able to have more than one beer occasionally or be able to drive a car.
The isolation of being left behind by his peers as they did all the ‘normal’ things.
A common perception is that Epilepsy is just seizure’s but it really isn’t and I could go on and on about it how it affects the life of the sufferer and the worry for their families.
Dominic had us, his loving family and we tried to make sure that he did as much as possible and have lots of wonderful memories of family times and holidays. Dominic was in the middle of a Graphic Design degree and was doing well due to his tenacity, hard work and the support of his Tutors.
A highlight for him was a trip to Spain with his oldest friend James Bridgens and seeing Barcelona win La Liga. James also came with us to the Monaco Grand Prix to celebrate Dominic’s 21st – an amazing weekend we will never forget. Dominic loved the weekends we had with friends and their families and I spent a weekend in 2018 in New York with Dominic, a precious time that I will treasure forever.
Dominic’s older brother Christian has learning disabilities and has been a student at a wonderful charity called Work Ltd for many years. A couple of years ago they took Dominic under their wing when he was struggling to find his place in the world.
The change in him was amazing and he found friends and peers who he had fun with and felt comfortable with. Dominic and the friends he made all supported each other through lockdown and spent many hours chatting on facetime etc. We were so pleased to see him settled and happy.
I would like to raise some funds in Dominic’s memory for Work Ltd to thank them for what they did for Dominic and for all the support they have given to Christian and will continue to give in the future as he also tries to come to terms with this terrible tragedy.
Due to Covid-19 their award winning Hidden Gem Café had to close, so like all charities they have suffered financial loss and I know our support will be much appreciated to enable them to carry on this amazing work.
Please share my post and help us to make a difference.
Thank you
