Story
October is breast cancer awareness month and this year Galway sea swimmer Louise Griffin has launched the ‘Swim in Pink’ event that will see people all over the country swimming, dipping and splashing in seas, lakes and rivers. They‘re raising funds to support the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, a national charity that funds a comprehensive research programme at the Lambe Institute, National University of Ireland, Galway.
Louise is a mother of three who knows only too well the devastating news a breast cancer diagnosis can have on a family as her mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother have all had breast cancer. She hopes ‘Swim in Pink’ will become a yearly fundraising event that will also get as many people as possible to experience the joy and benefits of taking to the water.
Disco Dippers came together during lockdown on the beach in Bray, Co Wicklow. We love the sea, the swims and the chats over a hot cup of tea - and we‘re delighted to swim this Halloween to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
