Story
Motor Neurone Disease currently affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time, and sadly there is currently no cure for the rapidly progressing disease.
Over the course of 2024, staff from across Toyota UK are coming together to fundraise for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, taking part in a myriad of activities. One of the major activities is a Director’s Challenge – walking 100km with the aim of raising £100k!
On Saturday 14th – Sunday 15th September, as a group of directors from across Toyota UK, we will take on the Thames Path Challenge, walking all the way from Putney Bridge to Henley. We'll be raising vital funds to allow the association to continue their research, improve care, and provide support for people with MND, their families, and their carers.

Please find personal statements on why we're taking part below:
“Motor neurone disease is a fatal, rapidly progressing neurological disease that remains incurable. The impact it has on the lives of those affected can be devastating - something I have sadly seen first-hand with a colleague at Toyota (GB). The Thames Path Challenge is my way of showing support to the fantastic work MNDA do in driving awareness, research and supporting families, and I hope you can add your support with a sponsorship donation” – Stuart Sanders, Director, Communications & Product, TGB
“Having touched the hearts of me and my family it was unquestionable that I participate and feel that I have done my bit to help fit against this horrific disease.” – Neil Sullivan, Customer & Retailer Services Director, TFS
"It's time to shine for MNDA! Motor Neurone Disease impacts around 5,000 adults in the UK. This horrible disease is an uncommon condition that effects the brain & nerves and causes weakness that gets worse over time. MNDA's work in research, care, and raising awareness continues to inspire me. Together with my fellow One Toyota Directors, we will be walking 100k on Saturday 14th / Sunday 15th September, as part of the Thames Path Ultra challenge. Your support and generosity in making a donation, no matter how big of small will help us to help those effected by this disease. Let's make a difference together!" - Jason Milton, CEO, TIS
‘I’m taking part in this challenge to help fund research, improve care and provide support for people living with and affected by MND.’ - Karolina Bullock, General Manager, Corporate Strategy & Planning, TIS
‘I am walking the Director's 100k Walk to support MNDA, a fantastic cause dedicated to battling motor neurone disease and making a real difference.’ - Mark Bennett, General Manager, Governance, Risk & Compliance, TIS
‘As a Leeds Rhinos fan, Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield were central to some of my best memories supporting rugby. Seeing the effects of MND on Rob during his brave battle and the phenomenal fundraising efforts of Kevin, motivate me to do my bit for a very worthy cause.’ - Simon Rawlings, General Manager, Commercial, TIS
‘As a father of two children and similar age to that of the late Rob Burrow his legacy and that of his family have inspired me to raise further awareness of motor neurone disease.’ - Ben Lillywhite, General Manager, Affinity Services, TIS
“The challenge we have set ourselves is nothing compared to those living with MND, and the friends and families who love, care and support in so many ways. I hope we are able to raise awareness and generate funds or this fantastic cause. Please do contribute whatever you can – it is very much appreciated.” – Paula Cooper, Director, Consumer One, TGB
“100k walking over two days is nothing compared to the pain that people who suffer from MND endure - not to mention the families who feel so helpless. Knowing someone personally who has suffered and lost their life to MND means that I am not doing this for fun - I am doing it to help raise awareness and funds to find a cure to this tragic disease.” – Rob Giles, Head of Value Chain, TME
“Taking part in the walk will help to increase awareness of motor neurone disease but, most importantly, the money raised helps support the MNDA to provide care, support, and information to people living with motor neurone disease.” – Rob McKendrick, Director, Customer Services
"The MNDA does incredible work in not only assisting those who suffer from the disease but also in researching and developing preventive measures. I’m walking to raise awareness and gain support for their invaluable work. Any assistance you can give would be extremely appreciated." – Mark Roden, Director, Network Operations
“Having seen the demise of those who have suffered from this cruel disease, I’ve been inspired to take part in the Thames Path Ultra Challenge to help raise funds for those coping with the symptoms of Motor Neurone Disease and to further research into why it occurs. It’s a huge privilege to represent Toyota in this challenge and whilst it’s not a distance I have walked before, my two labradors are thoroughly enjoying the training!” – Charlotte Butterworth, General Counsel, KINTO UK
“This is my second event this year supporting MNDA, so I would like to thank everyone who has already contributed to this fantastic cause. If you’d like to contribute further, please do so via this page.” – Stuart Ferma, Director, Operational Excellence, KINTO UK
