Hello, my name is Dhruv Patel and I’m 11 years old.

I have decided to raise money for the charities for Kidney Cancer UK and Leeds Cancer Centre because cancer is happening to way more people than it used to but more people are surviving due to all the research being carried out. My grandad sadly had to fight kidney cancer just before Christmas last year but luckily he found out early so they performed an operation and now he is much better. The staff and equipment at Leeds hospitals are amazing and will help you to be healed if you are hurt.

Kidney Cancer UK is the UK’s leading kidney cancer charity. They seek to reduce the harm caused by kidney cancer by increasing knowledge and awareness, providing patient information and by supporting research into the causes, prevention and treatment of the disease.

Leeds Cancer Centre diagnoses and treats cancer for the people of Leeds and the Yorkshire region. They are one of the largest cancer centres in the UK and provide some of the most up-to-date treatment, care and support for people with cancer. They provide small items like clothing for patients receiving radiotherapy, to bigger projects like the latest diagnostic technology that will mean better and quicker diagnoses for people with cancer and a service over and above what the NHS currently provides.

I wanted to challenge myself so I am going to swim as many lengths as possible in 1 hour 30 minutes. This will be split into 2 halves each being 45 minutes. Hopefully I will beat my target of 1km per session.

Please donate as much as possible even if it’s a small amount. You never know what you can do and you might even help someone beat cancer! I am hoping to be able to donate an equal amount to each charity.
