Story
This year will be a special year for the Danny Green Fund charity as it will be their 10th year anniversary, but it is also the year that Danny would have been 21 years old - sadly his family and friends won’t see Danny reach his 21st year. To honour his memory we are hoping that you will join us in a fundraising activity based around the number 21.
There will be lots of groups and people doing this in their own ways. However, I would like to do something with some of my friends who I have undertaken some of my previous events with.
This event is not an organised meet in any way.
I would like you to join me in peddling 21 miles from Shoeburyness station back to Canvey Island finishing at the Lobster Smack pub in Haven Road.
Saturday 21st May is the date for those who want to do the 21 mile peddle to support The Danny Green Fund. I have planned the route (pretty much the same as the 18 mile walk previously but extended back to Shoebury Station.). Anyone can join in as it will be easyish (there is just one hill on the route which is outside Chalkwell Station) There will be an entry fee of £100 for anyone who wishes to join.
This can be raised by any means. I will start a Just Giving page so you can either pay it to me on the charity page or start your own JustGiving page and I will get all the pages linked so we can see the total. I will leave that up to you but the whole idea is to raise money for the charity so if you raise more it’s a fantastic bonus – don’t forget to include the gift aid which can add 25% onto any donations which is amazing.
Please remember this is all about remembering Danny and raising funds for the Danny Green fund so lets all wear something GREEN as we have done on previous events.
The route itself is posted below.
The aim is to start from Shoeburyness Station at approximately 1030 a.m. It is not a race, and we can set off as and when we arrive as im hoping there may be loads of us.
I recommend you use a bike that is suitable for on and off road as the route takes us across Leigh flats/marshes to Benfleet then we will go around Canvey’s sea wall all the way from the tip to Thorney bay. The route is on the road occasionally and mostly cycle paths and tracks.
Make sure your bike is fit for purpose and prepare for all eventualities such as break downs and punctures – there won’t be any support teams or vehicles and you will need to deal with this yourselves.
I thoroughly recommend that you wear a cycle helmet and dress for the British weather.
We will finish at the Lobster Smack pub in Haven Road after completing 21 miles – this should take around 2 and a half hours at a steady pace but there is no rush and if you want to stop off for a bite or a drink along the way (plenty of pubs) that will be your choice – as I said earlier it is an unorganised event, so I won’t be counting you out or in but please stay safe at all times and stay together.
I say peddle but if you want to do it on any other contraption such as a scooter, tandem, e-bike or anything else then that would be up to you – just stay safe.
Lastly, this group will be opened up to any other family or friends you think are up for raising some money for a worthwhile charity and are fit and able enough to undertake the jaunt.
Let me hear back from you.
All the best – Cookie x
