The Dabirul Islam Choudhury OBE Story & DC102+
Dabirul Islam Choudhury OBE is a 101-year-old who has been in isolation for more than a year in 2020 & 2021 like the rest of us. He couldn’t sit and wait to change things for the better, hence he took the initiative to help humanity. Dabirul Islam Choudhury has been dubbed as ‘Charity Hero’ as well as awarded with an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his extraordinary fundraising efforts towards humanity.
Being the oldest Muslim fundraiser at the age of 102, Dabirul doesn’t want to stop pursuing helping humanity. Seeing the loss of millions of lives and witnessing the suffering of our mothers, sisters, daughters, and families due to pandemic & conflicts he now wants to help them even further.
He wants to put a smile on the mothers who lost their loved ones, see an orphan daughter shine in her life, empower our sisters, and not left them in misery due to the impacts of the pandemic. This is why he will continue to walk for humanity and raise funds for the needy.
1. DC102+
‘DC102+’, led by 102-year-old legendary fundraiser Dabirul Islam Choudhury OBE. The launch of the project will take place on Saturday 9th April, at 2.01 pm, at the communal garden of his residence in Bow, East London.
The launch will be attended by faith leaders, women activists, and young Londoners from diverse backgrounds. The event will be marked by a '102 second' silence for the victims of conflicts and covid, refugees around the world, and destitute mothers and children. Globally, individuals from 102 countries will also join the campaign from their own countries at 2.01 pm (their local time) and mark their respect for Mr. Choudhury's contribution towards humanitarian causes as well as raising funds for the RFC
These funds will provide shelter for the refugees & homeless, feed the destitute, provide education for young girls and boys, aid widows, and help war-torn communities affected by disasters. The donations will also help build mosques in the UK. The funds raised will be distributed equally amongst the charity partners of Channel S and those who are participating in the live fundraising programmes during the month of Ramadan.
2. Background to RFC
Channel S’ highly reputed Ramadan Family Commitment (RFC) is aimed to generate more funds so that the partner charity organisations receive further assistance from Channel S, and thus able to raise more funds during the month of Ramadan.
3. RFC for COVID 19
More than half a billion people will be pushed into poverty unless immediate action is taken. Predominantly the people of Bangladesh and third world countries will suffer the most – children and vulnerable families will suffer from extreme hunger. We have partnered with leading international charitable organisations to reach out to as many distressed people as possible affected by this pandemic.
4. How the process will work
The process is very simple. Donors donate to the JustGiving page provided above which has been established to raise funds, and the donations will be distributed equally amongst our partner charities. Generally, there are 26 live TV appeals during the month of Ramadan on Channel S who will be raising funds for various domestic and international causes. The RFC helps them to generate even more funds. For example, if anyone donates £26 to the RFC, each appeal will get £1. If you donate £260, each appeal will receive £10.
