Support Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity to enhance our bereavement services for maternity so we can provide the gold standard care that our local families deserve

Story

With much sadness, every year many families suffer the pain and trauma of losing a baby. Although we cannot change what has happened, we can make this experience that little bit easier for our families. As such, we need your help to make significant improvements to our maternity bereavement services so we can provide the gold standard of care that local people deserve.

To make these improvements possible, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity need to raise £150,000 which will enable us to fund various improvements to our maternity bereavement services across Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital, which include a specialised bereavement suite, The Serenity Suite, to give families at Doncaster Royal Infirmary time and privacy, away from the busy labour ward, in a dedicated, soundproofed room, to enable holistic care to be provided as well as promoting psychological wellbeing. A specialised scanner for the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit at Bassetlaw Hospital is to be purchased as well as creating dedicated counselling rooms for these families.

To kick start this campaign, The Bereavement Midwives Matt Proctor and Rhian Morris in June of last year took on the mammoth challenge of Climbing the National 3 Peaks in just 24 hours. Together, the team faced a feat of endurance climbing up the highest mountain ranges across the United Kingdom, including Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m) in just 24 hours. Once this was successfully completed, they vowed they would never climb another mountain again.... Until Now.

This year, the team have signed up to climb the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in 12 hours, as well as taking on a 15,000 ft skydive.

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge will take place on 25th June 2022, and the 15,000 skydive will be completed on 14th October 2022 - to coincide with the National Baby Loss week.

Each and every £1 that is donated will make such a difference to each and every one of our families, and will really help encourage us and spur us on in these two challenges.
