Story
On 21st September I will aim to run from Coventry to Walthamstow in memory of my nephew Dylan. Some of you are aware of Dylans story but for those that aren't he was born with Sandhoff disease. This is a rare genetic disease which there is currently no cure and led to Dylans passing last year. Dylan was a remarkably boy. His resilience along with the love and care of Sarah, Will and the care teams supporting him meant he surpassed all expectations and surprised everyone. Everyone who knew Dylan, Sarah and Will couldn't help but be inspired by his story and the way Sarah and Will provided as much love and happiness as they could in his short life.
I will start my run at Coventry Cathedral and finish at Higham Hill Park in Walthamstow. Both places provided many happy memories for Sarah, Will, Dylan and Benny.
The two charities I've chosen to support are Haven House Children's Hospice and SLOW.
Haven House Childrens Hospice were a lifeline for Sarah and Will, with music, yoga and physio therapies keeping Dylan active and providing a loving community of friends. They provided at home respite care when Dylan was well, and the 24hr nursing cover when he was at his worst. They are an extraordinary group of people. https://www.havenhouse.org.uk/
SLOW is an amazing charity providing physical and digital support groups for bereaved parents. Run by bereaved parents SLOW has provided a much needed space and place for Sarah and Will to meet with others and commune with other parents. There is a surprising lack of coordinated support for bereaved parents so SLOW has been invaluable support to the whole family.
