Story

We are raising money for Pilgrims Hospices in Kent in memory of our dear friend, Gwen Bateman, by walking 25km on 10 June along the Pilgrims Way, one of England's oldest national trails. Gwen spent her final days being cared for by the Canterbury Hospice before she passed away in Nov 2022 after a brief and brave battle against bowel cancer.

Gwen was a force of nature, having successfully beaten breast cancer 9 years earlier, and packed much more than most into her far too brief 47 years of life. She loved all sorts of outdoor activities and would have been delighted to see us doing something so energic. For many of us, this is a mammoth walk but as Jennie, one of our group, said - Gwen would have probably run it before breakfast! Those who knew Gwen well agree hers was a life well lived.
