Story
We are a team of young people who can see that Coronavirus has been devastating for millions of people who live in places that are less privileged than us. Instead of standing by and watching this story unfold, we want to raise money and awareness to make a real difference. Tearfund is a charity that shares our passion to end poverty, and they do so by sustainably empowering communities to raise each other up. Here is one story that explains why Tearfund's work is more important now than ever:
"The city of Barranquilla hosts more than 15,000 Venezuelan families who have taken refuge in temporary accommodation. Most of them depend on being able to go out to work in order to put food on the table, but now they can no longer leave their houses due to an imposed lockdown to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Thankfully, relief agencies such as Tearfunds church partners have delivered food baskets to 600 families with young children.
They will continue to reach out to help the most vulnerable, including the elderly and women and children who are at risk of violence and abuse when confined to their homes.
The full impact of coronavirus on communities in poverty is still unknown."
To raise money, every member of our team is climbing their stairs 110 times a day for 14 days in a row. This is the equivalent of doing the 4 peaks challenge (climbing mount Snowden, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Slieve Donard). As most of us have got used to sitting on our sofas during lockdown, this will be a huge challenge. We will post updates with how we get on, here on this page. We would love it if you would donate to encourage us though the pain! Your donations will help to support Tearfund's life-saving work across the globe. Thank you so much for partnering with us on this journey, we are so grateful to everyone who donates.
Love,
Rebekah and the team
