Story
Hi, we are Claire and Katie, thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page.
We first met as junior physiotherapists working on a trauma orthopaedic ward, largely helping frail patients with fractured hips get going again. Although we both loved it there, we have since moved on - Katie to a hospital to support people living with both frailty and dementia, and Claire to the community to support people living with neurological conditions.
Something important to us both is supporting people to live well despite what their health is throwing at them and remembering and advocating that a person living with dementia is a person with hobbies, memories and skills.
Katies Great Gran, Hilda, was diagnosed with dementia when Katie was 8 years old. This lead to a career specialising in providing rehab for people living with dementia, supporting people to return to their own homes and live independent and meaningful lives.
We want to raise money for the Alzheimer’s society to support them in researching dementia and to continue ensuring that those living with dementia can keep living the life they want to live for as long as possible.
Neither of us have ever taken on a challenge like this before and will be absolutely pushing ourselves to the limit in August taking part the Alzheimer’s Society’s Trek 26. We will be spending one day, walking 26 miles through the Lake District and would love to raise as much as we can to support this important cause.
For every patient we have supported.
For every family member who has watched their loved one slowly decline.
For every person and their families yet to receive a diagnosis.
For Hilda.
We walk for you.
