Story
The congregation at Christ Church Warminster have been so moved by the plight of our brothers and sisters in South Sudan and Sudan they have decided to support the Bishop of Salisbury's Appeal in a novel way.
The Christ Church Climbers are taking up the challenge to hike the height of Everest, 8848 meters, or the height of Everest base camp, 5363 meters, during August 2020. The aim of the Challenge is to raise money to provide food, soap and hope to the vulnerable communities in Sudan.
Choosing a hill near to their home, or where they are holidaying, the team will test their endurance and perseverance to raise as much money as possible.
Any friends of Christ Church can join the team. All you need is a hill or flight of stairs and plenty of determination and commitment - then, together we can support the Bishop's Appeal to provide food and help protect these communities.
The pandemic has added another frightening aspect to lives in the Sudans where ‘normal’ includes hunger and the threat of disease.“They would rather die of Covid-19 than hunger” is the really distressing plea delivered by Archbishop Ezekiel Kondo in Khartoum.
There is an urgent need for improved hygiene to help stave off the virus in a population weakened by famine. They need SOAP and FOOD.
We are using SOAP to describe everything linked to improved hygiene, which is just as important as food in fighting Covid-19, but which is lacking in so many areas.
