In May 2019 I crashed my bike on a Welsh mountain and broke my spine, shoulder and a few ribs. I was transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for emergency spinal surgery. Thanks to the care of the spinal team and follow-up treatment at St Thomas' Hospital I am able to get back on my bike and take part in Chase the Sun! I am fundraising for the charities that support these hospitals to show my appreciation for the care I received plus the care they continue to provide for others, including some of my close friends.

It won't be easy, but with some training and the support of James and Dan (and the metal rods in my back...) I'm hoping to complete the route! Starting in the Thames estuary, Chase the Sun is a 200+ mile cycle from East to West coasts on the longest Saturday of the year. The route bi-sects south London, passing Richmond park, bridging the Thames, onto Wiggin’s Olympic time trial route, plus west-country highlights, lush Vale of Pewsey, Silchester village hall, mendip hills, the infamous Cheddar gorge, before arriving on the seafront finish at Burnham-on-Sea.​

All of the funds raised go directly towards improving the care and experience of people who use the services that the hospitals provide. The Trusts rely on the charity to pay for equipment, comforts, education and research which would not otherwise be provided by the NHS.
