Story
On 21 May 2023, I'll be taking part in the Great West Run, in aid of Hospiscare. This means training hard, putting my best foot forward and taking steps to make a difference. Quite literally.
My brother, Phil passed away in 2014 following a leukaemia diagnosis in 2013. He was a research scientist, working on cancer and particularly leukaemia trying to find ways of detecting the disease earlier. He left behind a wife, 2 beautiful girls and a devastated family. I first ran the GWR in 2014, in his memory and am ready to do it again, for the 4th time!
We were still reeling from this loss when my Dad was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in 2015. Sady my Gran passed away in July 2016, and Dad followed in August 2016. Both were cared for by Hospiscare nurses who are the most incredible humans. Kind, caring, practical and simply brilliant not just with the patient but with the family as well.
Both of these charities are hugely important to me, whatever support you can give me will spur me on to run 13.1 miles! Thank you x
Hospiscare is a local charity, caring for terminally ill patients and their families across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. Their teams of doctors and nurses offer specialist palliative care, to ensure that patients can make the most of the time they have left. Hospiscare are a vital part of the local healthcare system and as a charity, they rely on donations to keep their services going. I know the past couple of years have been hard for everyone, but I want to help ensure Hospiscare can continue to be there for the community now and in the future.
