Story
In memory of my most beautiful and deeply loved Mum, Carin (10/02/28 - 25/09/20)
Sadly, COVID-19 has prevented any funeral collections and has greatly restricted funeral numbers. I've set up this page, in the hope that many people who can and cannot attend might like to donate to charities that I think Mum would value highly. Ideally I'd split donations equally between the charities, but unfortunately that's not possible, so you have the choice of charity or of donating a smaller amount to each.. any amount would be so gratefully received.
Mum spent many happy years volunteering twice a week at the Biggar 'Chest, Heart & Stroke, Scotland' charity shop, which brought her a great deal of joy (as well as the opportunity to keep up with all the local gossip!). This charity has become even more significant over recent months, in view of the heart failure from which she suffered towards the end of her life.
The last two and a half years of Mum's life was slightly dominated by peritoneal kidney dialysis, followed by haemodialysis. Mum was proudly the oldest person (at 90yrs!) to start this venture at her 'local' renal unit at Monklands Hospital, involving a 90-mile round trip twice a week for haemodialysis. She showed the most unbelievable courage, determination, strength and unfailing positivity throughout her treatment, and I could not have been prouder.
Mum also showed great fortitude in coping with regular eye injections, for age-related macular degeneration, over the past few years. She sadly suffered from even more faltering eyesight over the past few months, with the development of a cataract. As a result of this, Mum was fortunate to receive great support through some of the excellent services of the RNIB.
Heartfelt thanks for any donation you can give and very best wishes,
Louisa x
