Story

We're taking on the incredible challenge of descending 160ft down the side of St Thomas Hospital. With the amazing views of the Houses of Parliament, London Eye and River Thames, this adrenaline-fuelled challenge promises to be unforgettable.

Every penny you donate will help to support the compassionate and trailblazing care for children, young people and their families. And helps to care for the amazing Evelina London team.

We are Callums Warriors, but Callum is the true Warrior in all this.

Callum was born with disabilities and has had to endure numerous operations, the first one was neurological surgery working on his Cerebellum, the rear of his brain. This was performed at Kings College, Denmark Hill within 2 hours of him being born. He has battled mobility issues and worked hard to get to where he is today. With the help of the professionals that have been involved throughout his life, he has achieved so much, participated in numerous activities, sports and academic practises. He has amazed and astounded most people he has encountered. He always makes a lasting impression on the people around him and makes us proud everyday, with his determination, drive and gutsy resilience that he has built up.

Callum has been under Evelina, St Thomas' since he has been born with regular appointments to monitor the curvature of his spine and earlier on in his life, to monitor his migratory hips issue

Callum underwent Spinal Surgery for his Scoliosis on Wednesday 10th August 2022. The operation consisted of inserting metal rods into his back to help straighten his spine. With the expertise and experience of the professionals who perform at Evelina, St Thomas', the operation went really well. The results amazed us as Callums family and we are sure must have impressed the people involved with his operation and aftercare. This was an amazing achievement and one that we are really thankful and grateful for. Callums resilience once again shone through and he was discharged the following Sunday 14th August.

Callum was in a lot of pain and discomfort, but with the help of medicinal pain relief and guidance, he is battling through and making a good recovery. Callum has to frequently exercise his muscles to reduce the stiffness that he has encountered due to the operation, but he never complains or gripes about it.

The care that Callum received before and after the surgery can never be understated. The staff at Evelina, at every level, were brilliant, delivering Callum compassion, support and gentleness. They guided Callum and offered him the top level of aftercare that we could have asked for. As the parents of Callum, the staff demonstrated a professionalism towards us that gave us positivity, confidence, piece of mind and a sense of well-being at a time of increased worry, anxiety and stress.

What everyone at Evelina has done for Callum is so important and vital. This is going to add an increased quality within Callums life, increasing his opportunities and abilities. This will allow him to progress and develop even further, helping to reduce or eliminate the pain that he used to encounter during day to day activities and general life. He will not have to wear a brace again, as he used to not like wearing, particularly in the hot weather. The surgery will make him straighter, stand taller, increasing his self-confidence and shape him as an individual.

We are so thankful for everything that Evelina, St Thomas' have done and achieved for Callum and us as Callums family and friends, that a thankyou just doesn't feel enough. We want to give something back, to show support for them as they have shown with us. What they are about is absolutely fantastic, and if we can help them help more and more individuals and families like they have done for us then that is a great thing.

To support a place that offers so much brilliance, hope, compassion, expertise, opportunity, development, innovation and progression is something that needs to be appreciated.

We welcome and thankyou for your donations and hope we can raise as much as we can for the fantastic Evelina, St Thomas' Hospital.
