Story
C3 Alliance will be walking, running or cycling the equivalent of a half/full marathon helping to raise money to transform the outdoor space at Unitas Youth Zone in Barnet, London, a charity we fully support in providing a fundamental and inspiring safe hub for young people and the wider community.
The Project
C3 Alliance along with support from HTA Design, Focus Logistics and Nao Landscapes and Halison will be redesigning the outdoor space at the Unitas youth zone centre for their big anniversary re-opening event on the 17th June.
The re-design will help support so many great new opportunities for all those who attend, such as employability and apprenticeship opportunities for NEET young people, creating additional opportunities for Unitas to better support the wider community.
The space will provide a safe hub for young people where they can learn about the importance of education and sustainability by growing food on site to support the youth zone’s current provision. There will be new outdoor catering facilities to host community events and a flexible social area that can be used for youth performances, film screenings and community events!
The importance of Outdoor Space
In a 2017 report*, the WHO found that urban green spaces can promote mental and physical health and reduce morbidity and mortality in residents by providing psychological relaxation and stress alleviation, stimulating social cohesion, supporting physical activity, and reducing exposure to air pollutants, noise and excessive heat
Barnet has a real need for safe and inclusive outdoor spaces where young people can play, learn and grow. One in three local young people live in poverty – well above the national average – and experience correspondingly higher levels of poor mental and physical health, lower self-esteem and more obstacles to accessing support and opportunities.
Each aspect of the space is designed to offer new employability and educational opportunities in areas such as horticulture, hospitality and barista training, events management, and more. We will pay special attention to those aged 16 to 19 not in employment, education or training. Furthermore, we hope the renovated space will allow us to offer employment by creating unique job opportunities.
There are numerous benefits for our wider membership; the project will provide a vibrant and adaptable space for new activities not currently available at the youth zone; provide a safe and inspiring outdoor space that will better allow for social distancing as we continue to navigate COVID-19. We also hope that this space can be used by the wider community as a local venue for local community groups to run their own events and meetings.
It would be great for you to join us in fundraising for the event or donating some money towards the cause.
Thank you
