Conquer three summits in one day and soak up the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales

Story

The Busy Sisters are raising money for Alzheimer's Society by taking part in YorkshireThreePeaks2022.

Three Sisters. Three Peaks. One day.

Debbie, Shelley and Toni are the granddaughters of Margaret Beatrice Bown, an incredible woman who we devestatingly lost to Alzheimer's in October last year. Our Nan was a remarkable person, always radiant and full of joy and generosity, she was our hero.

In her 88 years of life, Margaret infused goodness into everywhere she went and left the world a better place. She was the head of our family and a pillar of strength in her community and friendship groups. The house in which she lived most of her life was a gathering space for anyone passing by to which Margaret would always greet them with a hot cup of tea and some biscuits - or if you were lucky some of her award-worthy toast. Wherever you were, if Margaret was there you'd be sure to leave with a smile on your face and warmth in your heart.

Alzheimer's, the most common type of Dementia, is a complex disorder affecting millions of people worldwide and is currently incurable. Seeing how our magnificent Nan was affected by Alzheimer's was heart-breaking for our entire family. Devastatingly, the affects of Covid meant our family lost out on irreplaceable time and memories with Margaret. The impact of the pandemic also meant that access to healthcare and diagnosis' were increasingly difficult and the strain on the social care system was tremendous. As a family, we are eternally grateful for the resources and support that we were able to access, especially those from Alzheimer's Society.

In honour of our beautiful Nan and as a tribute to the incredible and continuous work of Alzheimer's Society, we've decided to raise money and take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge this summer. On June 18th 2022, over the course of one day, we will be climbing three mountains: Ingleborough (723 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres). Adding up to 26 miles of trekking and known as a tough climb for even the keenest of walkers, The Busy Sisters are ready for the challenge.

Any money that we can raise for Alzheimer's Society we know will be going to a fantastic cause that supports countless individuals and their families across the country. We are trying to raise £300 each and £900 in total. Any donation of any size is greatly appreciated and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts in advance.

To our lovely Nan,

We love and miss you always. Thank you for everything. This climb is for you, we will carry you with us like we do every day in our hearts.

Lots of love forever,

Debbie, Shelley, Toni + Dan, Ali, Connor, Evie, Bailey, Kitty, Theo & Kit xxxxxxxxxxx

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.
