Raising money for Dyscover and Mind

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

Andrew and I are running Manchester Marathon next month both as a personal challenge, and to raise money for the charities Mind and Dyscover.

We'd like to keep the amount rasied for both charities even if possible, thank you!

Bryony is running to raise money for Mind. Mind and mental health initiatives have a close place to my heart having experienced ups and downs with my own mental health, as well as seeing those close to me have to go through different struggles. Last year I ran Edinburgh Half Marathon for Mind and found running to be really beneficial to me, and having struggled a bit after graduating university, I wanted to push myself both physically and mentally by taking on a full marathon. I am also dedicating this to my gorgeous friend Inga. Inga is the sweetest, most supportive and sunshine-y of a person and I’m very lucky to have her in my life.

Sadly, Inga has experienced unimaginable loss of loved ones due to issues around mental health. Despite all she has been through, she remains endlessly kind, caring and dedicates her time to always make sure those aorund her are happy. She has trained as a mental health first aider and is assisting in setting up charities to help those in need of help through their struggles, and supporting those whose loved ones are impacted by mental health. I think she's quite incredible so I want to dedicate this very long jog to her.

Andrew is running to raise money for a charity close to his family, Dyscover. Andrew's mum worked with Dyscover for 15 years, helping Andrew learn the value of communication and the devistating effects when thats lost.

Dyscover are proud to be in their 30th year of providing long term support and opportunity to people with aphasia and their families. Dyscover was established on 27th April 1994, and since then they have successfully adapted and developed their services and now provide both face to face and online support. The aim is to be able to help even more people with aphasia.

Aphasia is a neurological condition, acquvired through stroke, brain injury or rare form of dementia and is very isolating and frustrating. Aphasia affects a person's communication, including their ability to find words, construct sentences and to understand language, both written and spoken.

Dyscover works to inform, support and empower people with aphasia to manage their communication disability and to re-engage with life, creating an aphasia friendly community in which people feel included, valued and have a sense of purpose.

Any donations and support are massively appreciated <33
