Story
During the summer of 2022, John and Neil found themselves unwinding over a couple of pints, delving into their shared passion for charity work. As they discussed the causes they planned to support in the coming year, the conversation veered towards the idea of organizing a Charity Bike Ride. John recalled Woody's Lodge, a charity close to his heart, dedicated to supporting veterans of the Armed Forces, Emergency Services, and Reservists as they reintegrated into civilian life.
John, a former Royal Engineer, had weathered numerous trials during his military service. Though his time in uniform had left him with a mix of memories, the enduring bond he shared with his comrades remained steadfast. Now, in his post-military life, he felt compelled to give back and assist fellow veterans on their journey back to normalcy.
In stark contrast, Neil, an IT consultant, inhabited a world far removed from the rigors of military life. Yet, his appreciation for those who had served their country ran deep. When he learned of the opportunity to participate in a charity bike ride in support of veterans, he immediately committed himself to the cause.
Their efforts in 2023 bore fruit as they joined the WOODY’S LODGE Normandy Battlefield Tour, an unforgettable four-day journey that not only enriched their souls but also raised a remarkable £80k in total, with £2500 contributed by the dynamic duo.
Now, fueled by the success of their previous endeavor, John and Neil found themselves gearing up once more. This year, they had set their sights on the Hereford to National Arboretum Bike Ride, a challenging three-day expedition slated for June. With determination in their hearts and a shared commitment to making a difference, they prepared to pedal their way towards yet another triumph in the name of veterans' support.
