Story
My sister, Tasneem, and I will be taking part in Islamic Relief's Pakistan Skardu Challenge in September 2024. We have a passion for the outdoors and charity challenges and after seeing other travellers share the beautiful northern areas of Pakistan, we wanted see it for ourselves. The challenge entails hiking over multiple days from Raikot Bridge up to Fairy Meadows. Then the next day hiking up to Nanga Parbat base camp at an altitude of 3,850 m (12,631 ft.). This challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity for us, all while fundraising to help rebuild Pakistan following the disastrous floods of summer 2022.
The floods devastated Pakistan, leaving one-third of the country underwater and taking the lives of over 1,700 people including 640 children. Over 33 million people were affected by the flooding caused as a result of climate change, as families lost their homes, livelihoods and loved ones. There was significant damage to crops that were wiped out entirely. More than 2 million homes were damaged or destroyed, and over 800,000 livestock perished. Reconstruction costs in the aftermath of these disasters have placed additional stress on Pakistan’s fragile economy and the daily lives of local families.
Islamic Relief continues to support people across Pakistan to recover from the floods, such as helping families to repair and rebuild homes, rehabilitating water systems, providing cash grants and setting up psychosocial support facilities.
Every penny we raise will make a difference, and we're so grateful for your support. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Sponsor us today and help us rebuild Pakistan!
