Story
Finding ways to get out of our comfort zone was a founding idea behind taking on the Race the Sun challenge. We all want to keep ourselve fit and active and taking on this challenge allows us to do that whilst also fundraising much needed money for Action Medical Research for children. We are fortunate to have children who haven't needed the help and support of this charity but we all know of children and their families who aren't so lucky, and we want to use our desire for a physical and mental challenge to have a positive impact - raising this money for Action Medical Research will do just that.
Race the Sun is exactly as it says - we set off at sunrise and complete in three disciplines - cycling, hiking and canoeing - to not only beat the sunset but also the other teams taking part. Some of our team are more competitive than others so together we will be driving each other to the very end. We've got 36 miles of cycling the challenging hills of the Brecon Beacons, a 9.5 mile trek up to Pen y Fan and a 2 mile canoe. Canoeing will be a new challenge for us all so we will be getting some training in!
Surprisingly, medical research tackling childhood diseases is poorly funded in the UK. Action Medical Research has a critical job to do in helping fill this gap to protect children.
Action Medical Reserach are funding over 50 top quality projects, including Research Training Fellowships, at leading hospitals, universities and specialist centres across the UK.
Currently funded projects include research into asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, COVID-19 and long COVID, leukaemia and some rare and distressing conditions.
Thanks to all who came to our quiz night, we had such a fun evening and are pleased to say we raised a whopping £857 which is incredible and we are truly grateful.
We are in the final week countdown now, getting kit bags ready and keeping our kegs active!!
