Story

Welcome to my fundraising page.Thankyou for taking the time to read our team story…..

I’m no stranger to fundraising for the National Brain Appeal and I am now approaching almost 6 years since my diagnosis of a malignant brain tumour. It is solely thanks to investment into medical science that I have survived and been blessed to have been given more time with my amazing family. The last 2 years I have been on chemotherapy with a targeted treatment of BRAF inhibitors. These drugs are designed to block cancer growth in tumours containing a BRAF mutation. My last MRI brain scan was stable but no one knows for how long the drugs will continue to be effective. There are no future proven treatments for me but there are many more potential life saving drugs that could be developed if funding and awareness weren’t an issue. Sadly rare cancers are the bottom of the pile when it comes to government funding with brain tumours receiving just 1% of the national spend on cancer research.

Devastatingly last year a very special friend was also diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour and is currently receiving treatment. Sometimes brain tumours don’t seem to be so rare.

There is so much more that could and should be done to improve the outcomes from this disease. You have all been so generous to me in supporting my previous fundraising challenges and I am forever grateful to you, but this year my efforts aren’t just for me but also for my incredible friend Helen too.

While I am currently feeling fit & well this year I am planning to take on the London Marathon. I will be accompanied by my amazing husband Tony, and will run as a team along with Helen’s wonderful husband Paul and our awesome friend Dom Traynor.

Thankyou for supporting us and we will do whatever it takes to cross that finish line!
