Story
In April 2023 a team of 12 young people with Type 1 Diabetes along with 16 Diabetes health care professionals will travel from the East of England to Gabarone in Botswana. The team will participating in a diabetes education camp with children and young people from across Botswana who also have type 1 diabetes. At this camp the young people will share education about diabetes and what it means to be a young person growing up with type 1 diabetes in their different countries.
The team will the deliver an education symposium on the management of type 1 diabetes in childhood. This will be attended by doctors and nurses from across Botswana and will help them develop their knowledge and understanding of the management and treatment of type 1 diabetes. This is the second time that a team from the East of England has travelled to Botswana to educated health care professionals on the management of diabetes in childhood so we hope to build on the work we did in 2019.
The team have been set the challenge to raise all the money that it will take to fund both the diabetes camp and the education symposium. These two events will be life changing for children and young people with type 1 diabetes in Botswana.
The project is run by a partnership between The East of England Children and Young People's Diabetes Network, The Diabetes Association of Botswana and Cambridge Global Health Partnerships.
Any money that you can donate will go towards ensuring that there are improved outcomes and a better knowledge and understanding of type 1 diabetes for all type 1 young people in Botswana.
