Story
The Blazing Saddles were formed in 2020 at the height of the first lockdown, when a group of close friends decided that they needed to get off their sofas and get fit. These novice cyclists soon got the bug, and started building up their distances in the beautiful Cheshire countryside.
It was then suggested to put this new-found passion to good effect, and organise an official ride allowing us to raise money for charity. The Blazing Saddles were thus formed!
We have completed 2 rides already. 2020 saw us ride over 200km from Wilmslow to Anglesey. 2021 saw the ride progress to a distance of 250km from Newcastle to Edinburgh, over some challenging terrain. In these 2 years we raised over £80,000 for charities including Cancer Research UK & Leukaemia Care.
The Blazing Saddles have now just organised their latest ride which will see us ride a total distance of over 250km over 2 days from Belfast to Dublin, with the cyclists popping their “100 mile cherries” on the first day. The ride will take place on Friday 1st July & Saturday 2nd July 2022.
The route will be as follows:
Day 1: Belfast to Dundalk (via Carlingford Ferry), total distance 161km (100 miles!).
Day 2: Dundalk to Dublin, total distance 92km
The charities we will be supporting this year will be Cancer Research UK, Leukaemia Care, Prostate Cancer UK, Manchester Foundation Trust Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund.
We hope that you can donate to these wonderful causes & help us reach our targets. Your support will not only raise much needed funds but will help motivate us through this challenging ride.
Thank you.
