Story

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.

Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.

Our aim as a group of 'crackers' folk who are all connected with Guide Dogs in one way or another is to challenge ourselves to do something extreme for just one day, which is nothing compared to the challenges faced by guide Dog users everyday.

We are the North West of England group forming part of the National JUMP24 group effort where there are currently over 80 volunteers putting themselves through this great feat in order to help make a difference.

We have two groups taking part in this event. Both at Black Knights Skydiving Centre based in Cockerham Lancashire. Group 1 on 26/07/24 and Group 2 18/08/24.

As a registered charity, Guide Dogs rely heavily on events like this and other fundraising activities to support their work. Our goal is to help finance, raise awareness and educate people to help support this Charity, mostly by raising funds to be able to get more Puppy Raisers, Guide dog Trainers, fosterers and Boarders but most importantly GUIDE DOGS to help our nation of visually impaired and people living with sight loss.

In a time of financial strain for us all, we hope you feel able to support our challenge, it is a big ask, although we would also like to express to you that perhaps becoming one of these vital voluntary roles within Guide Dogs may be something you would like to investigate!

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
