Story
The South Downs Way
Benji aged 7 (and mum :) are going to walk the South Downs Way this Summer to raise money for 4 amazing charities!
It’s a really big challenge because the South Downs Way is 160km all the way from Winchester to Eastbourne and covers most of the highest points in the South Downs! It’s a long way for a 7-year-old, (and I suspect even longer for a mum recovering from long covid) so we’re really hoping that we’ll be able to do it! We’re going to complete it over the next four weeks or so, taking rest days in between.
We live in the middle of the South Down’s, where Benji loves this landscape, and it was his idea to do this walk :) These are the four charities we’ll be supporting, just click on their icons to donate :)
Malagiri School - this charity has a separate link, please see link-tree in insta bio!
Benji’s Grandad helped to start this incredible school, high in the mountains of Nepal. Grandad passed away 5 years ago now, and the school has been going for 10 years and is supported completely by charity through a joint project with the University of Brighton. It’s an amazing place, high in a remote area of the Himalayas, and provides education for children who have no other access to education. The young Nepali teachers are so passionate and make an incredible difference to the children’s lives, and to the future of the village and the surrounding area.
Macmillan Cancer Support
A leaflet came through our door a while ago now saying ‘Walk the South Down’s Way for Macmillan Cancer Support’. Benji thought of his Grandad who died from cancer, and straight away he wanted to do this to help and support other people going through cancer.
Reserva
Benji is so proud to be part of the Youth Council for Reserva. It’s an incredible project, started by Callie Broadus to create the world’s first entirely youth-funded nature reserve in the Choco Rainforest of Ecuador. They’re partnered with the rainforest Trust who match all donations.
The Rainforest Trust UK are running a brilliant campaign this summer to hug 100 trees for the rainforest. So as we walk, we’ll be hugging tress all the way, and will be donating to Reserva through the Rainforest Trust’s page.
Sussex Wildlife Trust
We’re walking through so much of the beautiful Sussex countryside on this walk, the landscape owes a lot to our local Wildlife Trust. Benji’s enjoyed forest schools with Sussex Wildlife Trust since he was a toddler, and they make such a massive difference to the local wildlife and landscapes around us.
Thank you!
I know that it’s not the easiest time money-wise for so many people now. We’ve been through job loss this year so completely understand if you’re not able to help. But any donations will go straight to the projects on the ground, and each is doing such important work, that any contributions you’re able to make will be so appreciated. We hope that each charity will receive a decent share, so if you’re able to bear that in mind that would be incredible.
We’ll keep you updated on the milestones of our walk, and thanks so much for visiting and supporting these amazing charities
Benji and Nish xx
