Story
Lucy and Becci, two local ladies who share a passion for running. Some of you may have seen us venturing out on our weekly long run, or pass us early in the morning while you’re out walking your dog. More often that not with a smile on our faces.
With two marathons under our belt and many runs in between the dream has always been to run the London marathon. After vouching not to do another marathon anytime soon after the long gruelling training of the last one, here we are fundraising because WERE GOING TO LONDON 2023!!
After deciding that we were going to do London we applied for some charities which were close to our hearts. Becci approached Whizz-kids and in her application mentioned me. Within 24 hours she received a phone call stating that they didn’t just want Becci but wanted us both, as a team! Of course we were delighted as we can’t do anything without the other.
So that leads to this page,
Whizz-Kids purpose:
To empower young wheelchair users by providing the wheelchairs, equipment, support and confidence-building experiences they need, and campaigning for a more inclusive society.
Why does Whizz-Kidz exist?
An estimated 75,000 young people in the UK need a wheelchair to be mobile.
Most young people aren’t getting a wheelchair that fully meets their needs through their local services
For a young person, having the wrong wheelchair can lead to dependence on others, social isolation, poor mental health, pain and injury.
Without the ability to be independent young wheelchair users are restricted in their ability to socialise and participate in society.
At Whizz-Kidz, our support goes far beyond supplying mobility equipment
We also offer activity programmes, work placements and wheelchair skills training to help you learn new skills and get the most from your wheelchair
