Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our just giving page.

As a team we are raising money for the Lewis Moody Foundation and The Brain Tumour Charity.

With less than 3% of cancer research funding in the UK allocated to cancers of the brain, our two chosen charities help tackle this debilitating cancer; fund support to improve lives, pioneer research to change lives and raise awareness to save lives.

Within our team, one of our members has sadly been affected by this disease. Sam’s father was diagnosed in October 2022 with an aggressive, high grade brain tumour (Glioblastoma). The average life expectancy after diagnosis is 14 to 16 months. This devastating disease can strike men, women and children of any age. There is currently no known cause for this type of cancer and despite treatment there has been no significant success in extending the average life expectancy of 14 to 16 months. The diagnosis is very debilitating from the outset; leaving people unable to work, drive and to perform many functions that contribute to someone sense of independence and self-worth. The impact of the diagnosis has a shattering effect on people, not only affecting their physical health but their mental health, financial matters, and their ability to participate in family life. This impact is not confined to the person with the diagnosis, but it also has major implications for their families and friends.

The brain tumour charity has already provided so much support to Sam’s family and will continue to do so as they go through their journey, but we also want to make sure they have the resources available to be able to help all families that are impacted by this devastating disease.

To help raise funds for these incredible charities we have signed up to the Bath Half marathon, setting the goal of raising £3000. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you have donated, they’ll send the money directly to the charity.

The smallest of donations will still make the biggest difference so any support to these amazing causes will really mean the world to the team, Sam’s family, and all the other people these charities will support. Finally, if you want a laugh, please come to bath half marathon on the 15th of October to watch some very red and sweaty faces run our race.

Thank you.
