With fundraising events cancelled and no clear indication of when we can open our shops or how long it will take them to return to normal trading, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice anticipate a funding gap of £1.5m for this financial year.

Story

The London Marathon was due to be at 9.30am on Sunday 26th April. With its postponement Manorlands Hospice loses a vital source of funding when its services needed more than ever. A few friends decided to challenge each other to a 26.2 mile marathon in their own back garden whilst we all remain in lockdown. Immediately, we knew that with loss of so many events, Manorlands had to be supported as this is such a vital charity in heart of our community. This soon escalated and with the amazing support of members, family and friends of Keighley & Craven Athletic Club and Craven Energy Triathlon Club, things have escalated enormously.

We now have around 10 individuals and approaching 25 relay teams. Even better, there is just exceptional involvement from the Keighley & Craven AC Junior section along with quite a few Craven Energy juniors as well. Indeed, probably in excess of 50 juniors from K & C so just marvellous that they are supporting this vital charity whilst hopefully all getting some great exercise as we are all stuck at home.

No real rules other than it would be nice to attempt the full 26.2 miles if people can (nobody will be counting if you come up short). The idea is that they are 'backyard London Marathons' but 'backyard' is how you define it as not everybody has a garden and a local outdoor space is fine. We know one person has measured his garden laps at 25 metres so has over 1600 laps to do and another has measured the ascent with garden steps to be over 7000ft. There will be sore legs but all for a great cause and a bit of 'lockdown' exercise.

This team page incorporates a number of separate fund raising sites by people having a go so please support Manorlands through any one of these pages.
