Care for Wild is the largest rhino orphanage in the world, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing orphaned rhinos whose mothers have been brutally murdered by poachers for their horns. Now more than ever, these endangered rhinos need your help.

Story

The Appleton Thorn Primary School mums are getting together to raise much-needed funds for Care for Wild (UK). We will be organising a Wild Wine Tasting fundraiser with the delicious Care for Wild Wines and a Halloween ball for the children to kick off the new academic year! Our running mums will take part in various physical challenges across the year (10K, triathlon...), individually and in teams. We want to make sure our children grow up in a world where black and white rhinos live in the wild, freely and safely. Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary works tirelessly to save rhinos, one by one, and we at Appleton Thorn want to help them make their vision a reality.

About Care for Wild: Poachers in South Africa often leave defenseless rhino orphans behind when they kill their mums for their horns. Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary specialises in rescuing, rehabilitating, rewilding and releasing these orphans into a protected wild area. Once released, the rhinos live under the constant protection of their rhino monitors, the K9 unit and the mounted unit.

Over the past decade, Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has provided refuge for more than 120 rhinos, including 22 individuals requiring specialised care due to injuries. As these orphaned rhinos have matured, Care for Wild has initiated a successful breeding program in South Africa, resulting in the birth of the first rhino calf at Care for Wild in 2022.

About the charity

We exist to help save endangered species, in particular black and white rhinos, orphaned by the poaching epidemic which is threatening their extinction in South Africa. Part of this aim is achieved by working to develop the communities local to the sanctuary in Mpumalanga province, South Africa.
