Story
Final update: At the end of September I returned to Cornwall, this time in the car, bike on the back, with Steve. The first objective of our holiday was to finish off those last 70 miles from Bodmin and on Wednesday 29th September I finally cycled up to the signpost at Land's End on the one fine day of the week. Mission completed at last!
Update 2: Well - here I am back at home, but have sadly had to 'defer' the ending. The first problem struck just outside Ludlow, where I came off my bike (there was an unusually high kerb on entering a layby). I severely bruised my chest and left thigh - extensive X-rays showed the femur was not actually broken. It took 3 days of recuperation in Leominster before I could get back on my bike, which I did and continued on just into Cornwall. The second problem hit me just before Bodmin when I developed a pulled muscle/tendon in the back of my right calf, which made it too painful to cycle on. I decided this time to listen to my body and though I only had around 70 miles to go, I have reluctantly come home to rest up. I will return to 'complete' some time in September. Thank you again for all your support.
Update 1: Thank you so much to all who have donated so generously. We crossed the border into England yesterday and are now over halfway, enjoying a night at home in Preston, though it will be hard to leave in the morning! Catherine has had to drop to a support role due to injury, so I am now cycling on my own in rain and shine. Our first few days were quite challenging with some big hills and poor weather. The weather has improved but there is still plenty of rain about. We have been through some fantastic scenery, as well as along some very busy roads! Your support means a lot.
I will be setting off on Monday 26 July with my daughter Catherine to (hopefully) cycle from John o'Groats to Lands End. We did the ride from south to north in 2010 to mark a significant birthday and this ride marks the next one, albeit a year late! We hope our efforts can also raise some money, and we have chosen to support 3 smaller charities that we think deserve wider recognition: Peer Talk; Shared Interest Foundation; and Carers Worldwide. Please donate to motivate us on our journey and to support these fantastic charities. We would be very grateful. Anne
