In 1921, over nine million poppies were created and sold on 11 November. Today, over five million Scottish poppies are still made by hand by disabled ex-Servicemen & ex-Servicewomen at Lady Haig's Poppy Factory each year distributed by Poppyscotland.

Story

Amiens Company is part of Glasgow and Lanarkshire Battalion Army Cadet Force. Each cadet and adult in Amiens Company are aiming to walk, run, cycle, swim the distance from Lanarkshire to Amiens in France between now and the 11th November. It is 560 miles from HQ to Amiens, so a challenge for us all. This will be a sponsored event with us all aiming to raise some funds for Poppyscotland.

The Scottish Poppy Appeal raises over £2 million each year. Poppyscotland was established in 1921 as The Earl Haig Fund Scotland but adopted their current name and logo in 2006 to reflect their revised fundraising activities and welfare services work. In June 2011 Poppyscotland merged with their sister charity The Royal British Legion (TRBL), which operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to form the largest charity group supporting the Armed Forces community across the whole of the UK.

Poppyscotland continue to operate as a distinct charity within the TRBL group of charities, relying entirely on public donations to allow us to continue our life-changing work.
