Story
The Youth Group is delighted that the SleepOut will take place again this year in the grounds of Southwark Cathedral! Our numbers may not be as great, but there is renewed enthusiasm for this project to help those in need in south London. Members of the Youth Group have been taking part in this event since 2012, experiencing a little of what it is like to be homeless by sleeping outside, but only for the one night. As the SleepOut was cancelled in Nov 2019, the Youth Group organised a SleepIn at All Saints' Church in Feb 2020. Then, last November, several of us participated in the SleepIn, sleeping in our own living rooms or on patios outside. We appreciate any donations you are able to give, to help those who are in need at this time. It will make a big difference to someone's life.
Since 2007, Robes has operated across Southwark and Lambeth to provide shelter for people who find themselves homeless in London. Last winter,
Robes looked after 48 guests, of whom 30 guests are set for long-term
accommodation (20 guests already in permanent accommodation and council duty to support achieved for 10 guests), as well as providing hot meals and advice support.
The SleepOut is one of Robes Project's biggest source of income. This winter, Robes will be operating a Covid-safe static accommodation for 18 guests every night at Davies Court from 1st of November 2021 - 31st of March 2022. The aim is to support the stay and move on of 50 guests. The shelter teams will also be providing hot dinner service and support packages to guests at Davies Court. Robes will also continue providing person-centred advice support and hot lunch meals at Tuesday Club.
