Raising money for Simba Charity and Pregnancy Sickness Support

Story

In loving memory of our son Alexander on what should have been his 1st birthday on the 1st July 2023 we are fundraising for two amazing and impactful charities.

Pregnancy Sickness Support is the only registered UK charity working to improve care, treatment and support for pregnant women suffering from nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) and the severe form of the condition, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). I suffered with severe HG right throughout my pregnancy with Alexander and the findings so far from the investigations into his death indicate that there was many missed opportunities in the care of my HG that meant his death was avoidable. This is why we want to fundraise for this important charity in Alexander's memory; to support increasing awareness of HG and the treatments available especially within the medical community, to support much needed research and to support those suffering with this condition, giving them the information to advocate for themselves, to hopefully ensure no other family has to lose their baby or suffer with long term complications due to this devastating condition.

SiMBA supports parents who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss by helping them create precious memories. In 2023, SiMBA will receive requests for around 11,000 priceless Memory Boxes which will then be gifted to bereaved parents across the UK. Once it had been confirmed we were going to lose Alexander we were gifted with a Simba memory box to help create keepsakes and to make the most of the little time we had with him. Zander took his footprints using the kit provided and we have a lock of one his little curls in a keepsake box. Things like this we would have probably never thought to do without Simba at the time when we were faced with losing him and it means so much we have them now. Simba also created a bereavement hospital room in the maternity unit, unfortunately I was too unwell to make use of the room when Alexander was alive but once I was stabilised enough I was able to be moved to this room. It was a fully equipped hospital room but with a sofa bed which allowed Zander to stay with me during the rest of my hospital stay. The room was in a separate area within the maternity ward which made sure we could spend the rest of my time in hospital privately and together, without being surrounded by new families and their babies immediately after losing ours.

We would be grateful for any donation towards one of these amazing charities in Alexander's name to celebrate what should have been his first birthday.
