Story
This also being 360th anniversary of the Royal Marines & the 80th anniversary of D-Day, myself and an oppo are going to run the 18 miles of Sword, Juno & Gold beach on 26th May as a warm up for the annual Royal Marines Commando Shuffle - details below.
As serving and former Royal Marines Commandos, we are raising money for the Royal Marines Charity and the Special Boat Service Association. We will be completing a 12 mile speedmarch as a troop from the war memorial in Barnstaple up the Tarka trail past Royal Marines Barracks Chivenor towards Crowe Point. We will then make our way across the Braunton Burrows and up the beach to The Saunton Sands Hotel.
The first link below is for the Royal Marines Charity & and the one beneath that is for the Special Boat Service Association. I would appreciate it if any money given could be divided accordingly as there is no way of combining them together.
Many thanks from all involved, it is really really appreciated. . The information on the charities we are raising money for is below.
RMA - The Royal Marines Charity exists to help the entire Royal Marines family. Offering a range of services to both serving, veterans and their families. This Charity is uniquely placed to understand, respond and react to the needs of Royal Marines and their families, helping them to overcome their own challenges, including life changing injury, life limiting illness and mental ill-health sustained on operations all over the globe. As an example, the increasing mental health support requirements of our Royal Marines veteran community resulting from the Falklands War, the Iraq War and Afghanistan is particularly stark in 2019 alone, twelve Royal Marines veterans committed suicide, an alarming and very sad increase. The Charity responded in 2020 by running a ground-breaking campaign know as #Lifting the Lid, a reference to Royal Marines taking off their Green Berets and opening-up about their experiences and the stress of conflict. This programme of support was praised by the NHS, Samaritans and Zero Suicide Alliance. But even with these initiatives, it is still not enough to prevent Royal Marines from taking their own lives. More support is needed, but the pandemic has had a profound impact on fundraising just as demand in these difficult times has grown. The Charity continues to campaign and raise funds, but it needs the help of every Royal Marine and every supporter of the Royal Marines Commandos. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please help these Royal Marines reach their fundraising goal
SBSA - Supporting those who serve from the shadows, The Special Boat Service Association is committed to supporting past, present and future Operators and their dependants, ensuring a lifetime of support where necessary. The SBSA is a charity that provides an extended welfare system to its members. There are, sadly, a growing number of members and their dependants for whom, through physical or psychological injury, bereavement or adversity, the SBSA now has a responsibility. The SBSA fills a delta of need which, because of the special nature of the people they support, raises that support to a level of the very highest quality which is deemed to be appropriate. Your donations will make a tangible difference to the support given by the SBSA.
