Story

If you are contemplating a donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. My daughter, Aiyanna Li, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a serious congenital heart defect. Despite the extraordinary efforts of the medical team, Aiyanna was stillborn on August 27, 2017. The depth of my grief is something I can't fully express, but it has transformed my life in profound ways. Sharing even this small part of her story compels me to encourage you to support other parents facing similar challenges. Your contribution, no matter how small, could make a world of difference.

Receiving the news that your child may only have hours to live, or that they would be subjected to multiple surgeries, is a harrowing experience. It is gut-wrenching to confront the reality of your child's fragility. Unfortunately, Aiyanna’s heart did not develop in a way that would allow for surgical intervention. Within the limited time I had with her, I felt a connection that filled me with both joy and sorrow. While I was devastated by her passing, I found solace in the belief that her suffering ended before it could begin.

Even seven years later, the pain feels as fresh as it did on that day. However, time has offered me a different perspective, dulling the sharp edges of my grief. Aiyanna was a beautiful little girl, full of life with a head of hair that brought warmth to all who were fortunate enough to hear her story. Her brief existence has touched many lives, and that legacy is a testament to her beauty.

I am determined to channel this pain into positivity by raising funds for vital research at GOSH. My goal is to collect £50,000, which will help advance understanding and treatment for conditions like Aiyanna’s. I have had the opportunity to contribute as a case study, offering insights that could lead to better preventative measures for future families facing similar obstacles.

However, this mission cannot succeed without your support. The resources you provide will not only contribute to research but will also enhance the quality of care that children and parents receive at GOSH. The remarkable staff there played a crucial role in my journey, and I am forever grateful for their unwavering dedication.

Thank you for considering a contribution to this worthy cause. Together, we can bring hope to other families in need.

With love,

Aiyanna Li’s Mum
