Story
This year, or about 2 months ago to be precise I wanted to set myself a challenge to really push me out my comfort zone and be able to help others in the process.
I decided to sign up to The Lake District Ultra Challenge on the 11th June!
I aim to complete a:
- 100km (60 miles) cross-country route on foot
- with a 2500m total ascent
- in at least 24 hour.
The charities I chose and why?
Birmingham Children's Hospital; This is a charity I've always personally held in high regard, as many of you know I was born with a cleft lip and pallet and from about 2 weeks old Birmingham Children's Hospital provided the care I needed to restructure parts of my face and for that I'm forever grateful, however my condition is by far nothing compared to the ordeal some children are having to deal with and I feel its about time I did what I can to help to give something back.
The Firefighter's Charity; I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve struggled mentally over the past 18 months from not properly dealing with the death of both my parents before I turned 19, something I thought I’d put to rest a long time ago.
At the time I just continued without ever taking a minute to understand how it affected my confidence, lifestyle and health.
It took me 11 years to finally speak out and realise I needed help.
I contacted The Firefighter's Charity who provided the mental health support I needed to understand how I could work through some of these issues in day to day life.
I feel like I’m finally finding my feet again and wanted to give myself a sense of purpose, to raise awareness for people that may need support but are 'ashamed' to ask for it and to help people who are less able than I am.
I've never taken part in an endurance event before so for me, this is jumping in at the deep end.
With your help I plan to raise at least £600 to support Birmingham Children's Hospital & The Firefighter's Charity to support families who are a lot less capable than I am now.
You'll be able to follow my my training through this page and I'll put links out to track me during the event, but in the meantime I'd greatly appreciate any donations however big or small!
Thanks for taking the time to read,
Adam
P.S. I’ve now linked the charity pages into a ’team’ so you can choose which one you’d like to donate to.
