Story
Thankyou for clicking on this link to read my story...
The swim - In 2019 I was booked to attempt to swim around the island of Jersey, a 45 mile swim. Sadly with mum becoming increasingly poorly and then sadly passing the swim was never meant to be. I decided to try again in 2020, this time to raise money in her memory. Winter training was banked, and as the sea began to warm and outside training should have begun...Coronovirus hit the island, Pools shut and we were in lockdown. The swim, in my head would once again not happen! However, as restrictions lifted, the swim (albeit with limited crew due to restrictions, and months of training I would never catch up on) became a possibility again. So, at some point during the 21-26July, when the weather Gods give me the nod, I will be jumping in and starting the longest swim I have ever attempted.
The charities - The 2 charities I am hoping you can help me raise money for are very close to mine and my families hearts. Both were so supportive during our most difficult times. I hope to raise equal amounts for them, to enable them to help families like ours in the future.
Jersey Alzheimers - This was one of the first places I reached out to when we were in desperate need as a family of guidance and support. Nothing was ever too much trouble, every question I had they answered, every tear I shed with them they understood, every frustration I had they had heard before and could give advice on what to do. To know that there were experienced people that cared and could help us navigate this illness was such a comfort and gave us strength and direction when we needed it most.
Ellenor - Sadly, whilst living with severe dementia, mum was diagnosed with cancer. It is impossible to describe the complexities and sadness of trying to deal with both Dementia and Cancer at the same time. As a family we were fighting, but at breaking point. I reached out to Ellenor Hospice, who went over and beyond to help us as a family. We were at crisis point and they became our huge support that we could not have done without.
I cannot thank these 2 charities enough, and all who work for them. You were, and are, guiding lights.
There are 2 links below, one for each charity individually. Thankyou so very very much for any pennies you can spare for them.
Last word goes to my mum. I initially wanted to do this swim with you here, as I know how much you loved to hear about my latest swim shenanigans. But that wasnt meant to be. Instead, I know you will be watching over me, happy and proud. Every stroke will be for you mum, and my dad who cared for you through out. Xx
PS - Mum, if you can possibly organise flat water, no jelly fish and sun on my back it would be much appreciated! Xx
