Story
Jo, John and Richard are cycling 165 miles from Morecombe to Bridlington on the Way of the Roses to raise funds for Transaid. Transaid works in Africa to improve road safety and to work with communities to develop safe and sustainable transport solutions. BigChange and its employees have supported Transaid and its work for many years.
This photo shows Jo in September 2019 with one of the volunteer Emergency Transport riders in Zambia who cycles children with malaria and pregnant women to local clinics across rough paths in the heat - using a bicycle ambulance provided by Transaid. These same teams are now working to save lives in the Covid pandemic, while continuing with their malaria and maternal work.
Martin has also visited Transaid's work in Zambia including the HGV driver training centre in Lusaka where BigChange have supported the provision of a driving simulator. There is so much more we can do together including supporting Transaid with technical advice on tracking technology and monitoring driver behaviour. As the world loses over a 1000 people a day to road traffic accidents and 90% of these are in developing countries we need to do something! This weekend we are cycling up alot of hills - its a small start.
