Story
We are the women’s rugby team at the University of Southampton, UK.
After seeing the way that events have transpired recently, in particular, the treatment of football players after the Euro 2020 final, I feel that there is more we can all do to tackle racism that is prevalent across the UK. As a result, we will be relaunching a campaign to Move for Stop Hate UK.
In the 2019/2020 football season there were 282 reported acts of racially motivated discrimination against players at the professional level. Therefore, as a team we are attempting to move 282km in any way that you see fit; running, walking, swimming, rowing, etc.
Let's see how far we can go as a university to Stop Hate.
Stop Hate UK: Stop Hate UK is a charity founded in 1995 as a response to the murder of Stephen Lawrence to focus on racial discrimination within the UK. It was rebranded in 2007 to address all forms of hate crime throughout the nation by increasing awareness of the abuse people receive across the UK. Their work means that people see information 24 hours every day across the whole year.
