Story
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to visit my Just Giving Page - Project Extreme Balls
Over the next three months I shall be taking on two of the branded "toughest footraces on earth" to raise funds for both The Mercian Benevolent Fund and The Oddballs Foundation.
Arctic 6633
Branded " The Toughest, Coldest & Windiest" ultra on the planet. It is a 250 Mile (400km) self sufficient race across the arctic circle. The race is nonstop and racers will have 7 days to reach the finish line. Racers will face temperatures dropping to -50 degree celsius and over 12,000ft of elevation. This is a self-supported race whereby racers will carry all the equipment and food they need for the duration of the race in a pulk.
Marathon Des Sables
Branded " An extraordinary race, for extraordinary people, in an extraordinary place". This is a multi-stage ultra - 250km (156 miles) in six stages across 7 days traversing endless sand dunes, rocky jebels and white-hot salt plains, carrying what you need to survive on your back. Temperatures can rise up to 50 degree celsius.
Temperature range for this challenge will span 100 degrees celsius!
Why take on this challenge?
My goal is to fundraise £6500 (£10 for every km travelled) across two charities- The Mercian Benevolent Fund and The Oddballs Foundation.
The Mercian Benevolent Fund
Currently serving as a reserve officer in the Mercian Regiment I would like to give back to the regiment in anyway possible. The Benevolent Fund provides relief either generally or individually to past and present members of the regiment/former regiments and the dependents who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress by making grants of money or providing/paying for items, services or facilities to reduce the need, hardship or stress.
The Oddballs Foundation
In civilian life I volunteered as an ambassador for The Oddballs Foundation in my final year at university. I believe the charity's mission of raising awareness of testicular cancer is incredibly important. Testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer to affect men between the ages of 15 - 49 but often men leave it too late to book in with a doctor to get themselves checked. Often this can be linked to men not wanting to discuss matters such as testicles and the charity's aim is try and help people become more 'comfortable talking about the uncomfortable'. Therefore, any funds donated can help the charity continue to do their important work of raising awareness of testicular cancer.
DONATING:
OPTION 1: DONATE TO THE MERCIAN BENEVOLENT FUND
OPTION 2: DONATE TO THE ODDBALLS FOUNDATION
OPTION 3: DONATE TO BOTH (unfortunately this has to be done individually!)
(Please note ALL funds will go directly to your chosen charity)
Thank you for reading this far and if you are unable to donate simply sharing this page can help my project!
Thank you,
Charlie
