Story
A group of Worcestershire Ambassadors visited the First World War Battlefields in Ypres in 2019. Whilst they were there they visited the memorial to the Worcestershire Regiment at Gheluvelt. They learnt about how the regiment had "saved the British Empire" in halting the advance of the German Army to the Channel Ports. They also witnessed some poignant teaching of school children in terms of understanding the extent of the sacrifice of a lost generation. They agreed that they would:-
1. Fund a more fitting memorial to the Worcestershire Regiment in Gheluvelt
2. Create a fund in Worcestershire to provide Bursaries to Worcestershire Schools so children can learn more about not only the Worcestershire Regiments famous stand but the sacrifice of that generation.
3. Raise £30k for the Royal British Legion for Worcestershire Veterans and their families.
To achieve this The Worcestershire Ambassadors and their supporters will be cycling from Gheluvelt Park in Worcester 287 miles to Gheluvelt in Belgium. They will set off on 27th October to arrive in time for the day of the battle on 31st October 2020.
