Story
Inspired by charitable movements & to lift people's spirits during lockdown, EverestStairClimb was born.
I was born with an atrial septal defect (ASD) & operated on at Great Ormond Street Hospital (London) in 1995. Terrifyingly, in 2017, I suffered a large stroke in the cerebellum region of my brain which has made life very difficult to get back to. There was unfortunately still a slight residual hole in my heart. I got very lucky, I'm still here and although recovery has been a battle at times, I can do everything I've ever wanted to!. Since then, I've had two heart surgeries to prevent this happening again (2018&2019)
To simply show everyone that no matter what the challenge is, you can get through it... I'm going to be climbing Everest via the stairs in ONE day! Everyone feels great when they are climbing in the outdoors and at home at the moment during lockdown it is very tricky for many of us.
I've trained for around 5 weeks for this thought various climbs, runs & lots of stretching! I'm fundraising for the NHS & The British Heart Foundation. Primarily because without their efforts/research & care, I would not be here today.
*UPDATE* On Saturday 23rd May, I took part in the event. I started at midnight and... 22 hours and 40 minutes later, I did it! 👏🏻 Scaled Mount Everest (29,029ft / 3,356 Ascents)
At the end of event day, we had raised an incredible £4,500 for The British Heart Foundation ❣️ & NHS Charities Together👏🏻💙
I have a million thank you’s to those who supported this event. From the likes, shares & messages to your networks, through to your generous donations & messages of support.
People sharing their stories has only shown me even more just how vital these two charities are. Thank you so much. Please continue to share this page if you can!
Please share my story so that young people (who have had heart surgery) can be reminded to go and have a check-up to make sure everything is in order... it may just save their life.
