By providing an extensive refurbishment to the Neonatal Unit including world class medical equipment and enhanced parent facilities we hope to make a difficult time a little bit more comfortable

Story

The Neonatal Unit at Arrowe Park Hospital is a designated Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – one of only two in Cheshire and Merseyside. This means they are able to care for some of the most poorly babies. Our Neonatal Unit currently has 24 cots which enable the team to provide specialised care for babies from around 22 weeks of pregnancy.

Many of the babies are born early (premature). Some babies born around the time they are due (term) can also have problems, some requiring a brief stay with us and others a more intensive, longer stay. We know that improving the facilities will make a big difference for our smallest patients and their families.

The refurbishment includes and extensive reconfiguration of the ground floor of the Women and Children’s Hospital , Arrowe Park to expand the existing neonatal unit, purchasing world class medical equipment and creating enhanced parent facilities. WUTH Charity needs to raise £1.5million over the next three years to make this happen.

Preparations are well under way and the five climbers are excited about the prospect of completing such an aspirational challenge as a group. The challenge will not only be to complete the three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdown (the three highest peaks in each of Scotland, England and Wales respectively), but to do so in under 24 hours including our travelling time.
