Story
We are fundraising for the below three charities:
The 3 Ridge Cycle Challenge - Leukaemia UK Charity
The 3 Ridge Cycle Challenge - JDRF Charity
The 3 Ridge Cycle Challenge - Mind Charity
Why...
We wanted to take a step back from the world of Mortgages and look at a more important picture in life, which is supporting things that really matter. Whilst Mortgages do matter in our worlds, they are not the difference between life and death, which brings us on to our charities where raising money and awareness is the difference between life and death in the main. Myself and Simon have been affected by each of the chosen charities and whilst we like doing things in 3's we homed in on this challenge.
After watching my mother go through the horrible stages of Leukaemia, she sadly passed away in September 2021. This horrible form of cancer effects thousands of people each and everyday, support us on our challenge and support Leukaemia Uk.
Mental Illness, a condition which goes undetected in the main, one that only until recent times is really accepted in society. The daily stresses of life can take it's toll, in particular after the last few years
where some people were alone for long periods of time.
Juvenile Diabetes, a condition which again has affected a lot of youngsters, one which is very hard to understand. Going from being active and healthy to being told your diabetic at such a young age is tough. The pandemic has again seen a rise in these types of cases.
Taking the fight to these illnesses is a tough one and in doing so we wanted to do something that was pretty out there and something that would push us to our limits. Our limits may we add is nowhere near where people suffering with the above are at. In doing so we wanted to lay down a minimum target of £1,000 per charity.
The challenge will be done over a 10 day period at the end of July and into Aug 2022 and will involve starting at the foot of Ben Nevis in Scotland where we will start on foot, climbing the Ben via the CMD Arete Ridge path, once summiting we will be straight down and onto our bikes to start the long peddle south to then climb Helvelyn via Striding Edge. Once this is done we are back on our bikes to go down and across to Snowdonia where we will then climb Snowdon via the Horse Show which encompasses Crib Goch. Most people would then call it a day but we decided to then take the bike ride home back to our base in Lincoln. All in all we will have cycled over 1,000 KM's and trekked over 45KM's with a 2,500 metre climb built in for good measure.
