Story

Thank you for visiting our page.

This is our kind of CRAZY! The team (that'll be Lisa and me) have taken on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge. And we'd love to have you support our efforts to raise money for The British Heart Foundation.

As some of you know, Lisa has suffered from a series of cardiac-related issues her entire life. Sadly Lisa lost her father to those very same hereditary heart issues 11 years ago. And, those heart issues are also the reason we've paused our global journey, as Lisa received the urgent medical attention she so badly needed.

I hope you can see from this single paragraph above, why raising money and support for the British Heart Foundation is something that is, excuse the pun, 'close to our hearts'. On a personal note: my motivation is simple. Lisa is the most important and inspiring person I've ever met, and funding any research that will keep her healthy and alive is, something I'm driven to do.

So, why now? After two tough 'stationary' years, two bouts of COVID and two years of consultations, hospital visits, and cardiac procedures Lisa said to me "to hell with playing it safe, we need a challenge" and so signed us up for what's been described as one of the toughest trekking challenges in the UK!

The goals are simple. 1. to sets our sights on a physical goal that seems (as I type this note) ridiculously out of reach and 2. to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. An organization at the forefront of cardiac and heart disease research, and whose work benefits people around the world.

The challenge ahead of us is daunting. The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order. We have just 12-hours to walk 24.5 miles and hike over 5,000 feet of ascent.

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound, dollar or cent helps so please give what you can to help us hit our target. Thanks!
