Story
Our challenge:
Beginning in the town of Llanberis, in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, we will be trekking to the top of Snowdon....at night! Our challenge begins at midnight under the cover of darkness, where we expect to reach the summit by sunrise and back again for a total time of 8 hours. This night time challenge will test our physical and mental limits but we will be rewarded by knowing that all our hard work is going towards raising money to help Sands.
We will be climbing the Llanberis Path, the longest and most gradual of the six main paths to the summit of Snowdon.
Distance: 9 miles - 14.5Km (there & back)
Ascent: 3,199 feet - 975 metres
About SANDS:
Sands exists to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, to improve the bereavement care received by parents and families, and to promote research to reduce the number of babies dying. Everything they do – the services they run, the public health messages they promote, the way they raise money – is focused around these three aims.
Sands is the leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity in the UK. Sands exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it.
Sands provides bereavement support services both nationally through its Freephone helpline, mobile app, online community and resources, and locally through a UK-wide network of around 100 regional support groups.
Sands works in partnership with health care professionals, trusts and health boards and offers a range of training programmes and bereavement care resources to ensure that every bereaved parent and family receives the best possible care wherever they are in the UK.
Sands supports and promotes research to better understand the causes of baby deaths and save babies’ lives. The charity also raises awareness of baby loss and works with governments, key influencers and other stakeholders to make reducing the number of babies dying a priority nationally and locally.
Over the past 40 years, Sands has grown into a national charity with a powerful vision, to create a world where fewer babies die, shared by dedicated volunteers, fundraisers, members, donors, healthcare professionals, partners, staff and bereaved parents and families.
