Story

We are running the 2025 London Marathon for the Royal Osteoporosis Society!

As many of you know, our amazing mum has always been very fit and active. She used to love running and had applied for the London Marathon for multiple years in a row. In 2016 she finally got a place however when she was training, she suffered a crush fracture of one of her thoracic vertebra as a result of having osteoporosis. It caused excessive pain and meant she had to pull out of the marathon. She couldn't run and could barely walk for several months.

Mum was coincidentally diagnosed with breast cancer the same year. The chemotherapy treatment meant she was less mobile and caused further problems and she suffered a second fracture of another bone in her back.

Few people know or understand what osteoporosis is - it is a health condition which weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break. ROS are driving research for the development of new medications and treatments to beat osteoporosis. They also provide help and advice for those with a new diagnosis, and support for those who have it.

The diagnosis has meant that mum now needs to be careful and high impact activities like running aren’t possible, she won’t be able to ever run the marathon – so mum, this is for you!

It is the first time both of us will run a marathon and we are so glad that we can do it together. We would be really grateful for any donation, thank you!
